the fan option does in fact does wire into the pc board. However, you do NOT
have to drill any holes!

the wires terminates with a MTA plug that matches the jack on the pc board.

and while i have not measured the voltage at the fans, I suspect it to be
lower than 13 volts as the fans run much slower and thus not as loud.

The fans turn off when the radio is off


but they run all the time when the radio is on. I find that a bit odd..

the micro processor could have monitored the mode line. When in cw the fans
would be off. A watch dog time could then monitor the key down time and
after X counts, turn on the fans.

the same ideal would work on SSB. After so many counts, the fans would snap
on.  On FM and AM modes, the fans would run all the time.

it's just a thought. the ideal method would be to just monitor heatsink
temperature, but that would increase the price of the radio somemore.
