[TenTec] Argosy

I believe they are the MRF 477s which are no longer manufactured by Motorola - RF Parts has them limit one 29.95 or limit one matched pair for $66. (This info came from Ten Tec service, prices from RF Part's website http://www.rfparts.com/mototran.html ). Needless to say when I get my Argosy fixed up I plan on using it mostly qrp or at least very conservatively. I think qrp selection on the Argosy bypasses the finals. (I don't have the manual in front of me).

Interestly enough when I was doing a search on the Internet I found the , uh, shall we say CBers that run a little more than legal power, used them a lot and there was a mod I saw for using a newer inexpensive tabbed device similar in specs where they just soldered leads onto the tabs and had the corresponding pinout. I have no idea how it would work out or if it is even possible in the Argosy but it was just a thought for future reference.

Thanks to all for the help. I might just go with the
AADE DFD3 (or similar) and mount the counter outside
of the Argosy.

Oh yeah, just off the top of my head--are the finals
for the Argosy the ones that are hard to find, or
relatively common? If I recall correctly, MRF475's
(or ???) are long gone, and I'm curious as to what to
expect if I blow the finals. Not that I plan to,
but...
