Very similar experiments to what you propose have been done by Witt in QST,
and in Communications Quarterly by Bruene and Maxwell among others, very
interesting reading, if you have not seen them.  Comm Quarterly although now
absorbed into QEX, was at the time of these pieces, a property of CQ
Publishing.  Not sure who has the reprint rights, but one or the other,
(ARRL or CQ Pub.)
