A slick thing to try would be to put a really good (e.g. Datong FL3) audio
filter in place of the the stock CW filter in a Triton or older Omni. Of
course, the line levels and Z would need matching.
I've got some NOS National MF8s lying about somewhere, which might come close.
BTW - the difference in audio that I originally noted applies only to SSB, at
least for me. The Omni V sounds terrific in CW.

Old TenTec's don't use post-AGC audio filters. They use pre-AGC audio
filters. It's hard to tell the difference between their af filter and an
IF filter. It's sorta like these new DSP radios with their AGC developed
after the IF chain or at least some resemblance.
