[TenTec] Is this how it is done today?...NO

Character? Lawyer? Can you use two terms in the same email? I'm not sure
that is possible! We learned from the last administration that lawyers have
no character.

Hi Chip!

I have read the emails, and you clearly DID have an agreement with W5YE,
which he
acknowledged. Any attempt he makes to say otherwise is just rationalization,
an
attempt to hide the truth.

But what you are dealing with here is a matter of character.

It has been my experience that it is most difficult to get people to behave
more
honorably than it is in their character to do.

W5YE is clearly comfortable being less than 'a man of his word' to you.
Unless you
have a big stick or a bigger carrot, you will not succeeed in making his
behavior
more honorable than he is used to being.

Character is generally determined at an early age. Some of it is a
reflection of
one's upbringing, some of it a reflection of how honorably one's parents or
their
surrogates behaved when they were observed during one's childhood years,
some of it
is likely genetic, and some of it is cultural. But any attempt to improve
the
character of an adult, from a distance, in a situation like this, is doomed
to
failure.

So I would suggest that you move on. Hopefully your next attempted
transaction will
be with someone whose word is good, and who is 'as good as his word'.

I have been a ham for 35 years and have made many deals with fellow hams,
and haven't
been 'stuck' yet. So most of our brothers and sisters ARE honest people with
character. You just had an unlucky experience
