If the amp is NOT type accepted and comes from a manufacture then they are not illegal to us in the USA. If they can take a four watts input and put 500 watts to an antenna they are made for CB. If you want to use this amp you may lose your ham ticket.
If you do not want to live by part 97, maybe you are in the wrong hobby.

I'm not so sure if it's illegal or not. If so, then Emtron, JRC, and several
others are illegal, but they get sold in the USA. I dont think they would be
so popular if they were illegal. I'll e-mail THP co and find out. And if they
meet spectral purity requirments and are operated properly by a licensed
amateur, then there should be no problem. After all, you are allowed to build one a
year yourself without type acceptance, and some of those may turn out way
dirtier than a professionally made one. 73.
