For the sake of completeness, it should be stressed
that pushing any RF current into the soil should be
avoided as much as possible.

That would be a pure waste of energy on transmission,
and a source of all kinds of noise on reception.

If there is no RF current flowing into ground,
then the ratio between the connection length and lambda
has no significance.

The remaining function of ground is then protection.
