[TenTec] Re: [Orion] Updating the Orion-set the baud rate

Wonder were this 'good' software is; I've only had a few cases of using
programs that set the ports. Personally, I do not want the software
'automatically' setting the parameters.

Most 'ham' programs that I have encounter does not set the serial port
parameters. In most instances, the serial port has to be set manually to
the exact parameters that 'end device', i.e. radios, TNCs, etc, wants to
see. I have gone through this so many times........set the computer's port
to that of the end device and the communications problems go away...........

In fact, when I tried my first update on the Orion I had forgotten to set
the serial port parameters. Only after I manually set the port did the
upgrade worked (i.e., the computer communicated with the radio). Note that
the Orion's serial port is on a third party PCI serial board.

John,

I guarentee you that was not the thing that made it work. All good programs
set all the comport parameters themselves and do not rely on the user to set
these things in the windows settings.
