Hi!
I got my Argonaut a couple of weeks ago and am every bit as happy as
John and Ronald mentioned it the previous posts on this subject. I have not
used mine for CW yet. I have had excellent results, however, on USB. I
have the rig connected to a Cushcraft MA5V up about 20'. I was able to make
DX contacts to Australia and the Czech republic with only a little more
"effort" than I was used to with my Jupiter. (Got decent reports too!)
This is my first experience with a QRP rig and it has been great! I agree
about the quietness of the receiver and the effectiveness of the filtering
and adjustable passband.
I traded my Jupiter in towards an Orion. At first, before I got the
Argonaut, I had second thoughts about that decision. NOW, however, I have
no such thoughts OR regrets. I have found the Argonaut to be very enjoyable
to use - even for SWLing.
Oh - about the RF gain control. (or the lack thereof) I rarely used the
RF gain on my Jupiter and really do not miss having one on the Argo. If
something really needs to be "dealt with" - there IS the attenuator.
Bottom line: Fantastic Rig! 73, Bill
