What appears to be the skirt on the inductor tuning knob is actually a turns
counter driven by the tuning knob. 30 turns from zero to full inductance
turns the skirt 180 degrees. I don't know the exact mechanism as I've never
had mine apart. But its a big improvement on the 238's window.

Subject: [TenTec] New black tuner
Looking at the QST review, can someone tell me how the knob is connected to
the inductor and how turns are counted? Look like nothing is there!
