[TenTec] dealer networks

I was told by a salesperson from a large dealer that TenTec went factory
direct because of incentives given to salespersons promoting that "model
of the week" by the Japanese makers. TT did not allow such incentives.

Most recently (for dealers) I bought my Omni V from
Bill Slep in Otto, NC, in 1990. Never met him but
talked on the phone and exchanged written notes. Great
guy who I would like to have met in person. Wonder
what he is doing today.

Before that I bought my Omni D from Clegg in
Lancaster, PA. That was another great outfit as far as manufacturing
goes. Don't remember the date, but a friend and I were trying out the
ICOM 701, the Drake TR-7, and the Omni in Clegg's showroom. We were
expecting to pick the ICOM, but wanted to try the Drake since we both
had had Drake twins and a TR-4 before that. Other than the oveall
picture, the biggest deciding factor was the receiver performance.

To our surprise, the Ten-Tec blew away the other two.
