That's all the standalone interface boxes do .. is give you a Telnet
thingy to connect to. Doesn't take much of an engine to manage
that. I suspect the box, connectors and power supply cost more
than the working silicon. They're sort of the IP version of the old
X.3/X.28/X.29 adapters for ascii over X.25.
The smarter USB-to-async adapters are a little more plug&play --
they just look like another COM port, except they're a mite faster ..
