and is on its' way now back to Sevierville. After a
call to Paul in the Service Dep't. and a brief discussion,
that was all left that was left to do.

Seems that a voltage is too low somewhere inside. One
which drops after some 45 or so seconds after power ON.
Probably a bypass cap in a 5 volt voltage regulator. But
Paul first suggested changing the external PS just to
be sure it was not there. So, I replaced the 961 which
I had been using with the Orion (from use with the Corsair II,
which will now sit in the main place until the Orion returns)
with a 962. Did not obviate the problem.

Seems such a suspect cap can warm up pretty hot after
several seconds IF it is partially shorted, completely short,
and drop the 5 volts down to 1 v or so, and the fault I
experienced would occur. N4PY was the first to suggest
such a failure mechanism. So, one of those random
early component failures within a brand new product.
No way I could deal with such a surface mount device
out here, hi.

Rig will not reach Ten Tec until earliest Wednesday, and most
probably Thursday from way out here. So, right against
the holiday weekend. Probably won't get back to Kauai
in less than two weeks, maybe three. So the Corsair
will see use in the meantime.

I was able to get the firmware to install, but that did not
help.

73, Jim KH7M
