[TenTec] PSK and Argo V help?

What kind of a circuit are you using to key the rig?  Also which are you
using to actually activate the keying circuit to key the radio - the RTS or
the DTR?

I'm attempting to get my Argo V on the air with PSK31. I have connected the
Auxiliary cable to the sound card and I'm copying PSK without difficulty. I
also have the rig connected to the PC via a serial cable (COM3).
 
My problem is getting the PTT to function using the serial RTS/DTR mode.
The software indicates that the appropriate tones are being generated but
there's no RF unless I manually hit my foot switch and activate the PTT.
The software (PSK31 Deluxe) is set for PTT via the COM3 RTS/DTR lines.
 
I've tried the VOX route but I haven't found the settings that avoid a
"choppy" signal.
