I've always wondered if you go backwards to an earlier version if you leave
some remnants of the later one.

Contrary to my earlier report, I too have now found the issue in
1.363. I had a note from T-T that they were not able to duplicate the
problem in 1.365, but sent more notes today. Also made some .wav
recordings of the radio with and without the distortion and sent to
Gary tonight.

As I have time later this week I want to try going back one rev level
at a time to attempt to see where the distortion first shows up. The
difference between the clean and distorted audio is very dramatic,
and shows up reasonably well in the recordings I made.

I have not yet been able to lock down specific control patterns that
cause it or make it go away that I'm willing to hang my hat on, and I
have spent virtually the entire day fiddling with it, going back and
forth between 1.363 and 1.365. I'm about to wear out my power
switch. Sort of an unofficial day off -- easy since my office is only 10
feet from the radio room (and the boss lady is in antoher time zone)
:-)

It APPEARS .. (and that's the best I'm willing to say now) that with
1.365 a power cycle will cause it to appear and a VFO B LCK rest
will cause it to return to good audio. But who wants to do a
reset-everything every time you turn on the radio?

In 1.363, it also APPEARS to be the same, although it has shown
up unexpectedly under other conditions. Sometimes it has taken
two power cycles, and then a few seconds of speech before the
distortion shows up. It's very inconsistent and hard to nail down.
But 1.365 is a bit easier since it's almost always there.

Of course, it could just be my old (March) radio, and YMMV ...
