[TenTec] [Orion] Microphone connections

I'm in agreement with you on the age thing Bill, I experience the same
thing.

Your email had a hint of 'bait' to it, especially since you said you used a
Jupiter, which of course also has a 4-pin mike connector. That I can recall,
Ten Tec has always had four pin mike connectors and why go to 8-pin when
four will do the job? It's kinda funny to read this reflector and read about
folks having problems with the mike connector. I run an Orion and a Titan 3
and have certainly had no RF feedback problems with my set up. However,
having invested in the Orion and Titan 3, the very first thing I did was
install a dedicated ground system with 8' copper rods, #2 solid copper wire
into the shack, and copper bus bars along the baseboard and the back of my
desk. I also have dedicated 115VAC outlets and 220VAC outlets. Just because
you pay a lot of bucks for a radio system, does not mean it will run
flawless in a poorly set up operating position.

Heil primarily makes their audio equipment for foreign radios, which most
all use 8-pin mike connectors. Just because Heil uses 8 pin connectors is
not the end of the world either, as my Heil connector conversion from the
8-pin to a Ten Tec supplied 4-pin connector took all of about 30 minutes.

Anyway, glad your gonna keep your Orion, they are very good radios.

73,

Tom - W4BQF
