Non iambic keyers require two SPST momentary contact switches to
activate the dit generation (one switch) and the dah generation (the
other switch). Iambic keyers require the same. The iambic functions of
an iambic keyer require that both of the SPST switches can be closed
simultaneously, like from a dual paddle key. Some non-iambic keyers may
do funny and undesirable things when both SPST switches are closed
simultaneously. Nevertheless you CAN use a double paddle key with a
non-iambic keyer, and you CAN use a single paddle key to send with an
iambic keyer. There are many varied personal preferences and habits
learned from using various kinds of keys, and keyers, that may make it
difficult or undesirable. Still the answer to the original question "can
I use a single paddle key on an iambic keyer?" is "yes, but you will not
get the full iambic function".
