Just to get some clarification on the QSK issue; When you say a rig won't
run QSK above a certain speed, are you saying it won't key that fast or that
you can't hear between the characters or both?
I had one of the original IC-706's and that thing would not only key at 60
wpm but you could tune in on a steady carrier, key the dits at 60 wpm and
hear a steady tone from that carrier in your speaker! Now that's what I call
fast QSK. Of course, chopping off 50% of the character certainly helped but
the recovery time was amazing. My IC-706MKII is much slower than this and it
still chops the characters just as bad.
With the Omni 6+ I can tune in on a carrier and hold down the dits up to
about 45-50wpm and still hear the carrier. After 50 wpm, the carrier
suddenly drops off and nothing can be heard. Keying looks pretty good on the
scope right on up past 60 wpm after doing the little mod I mentioned.
