[TenTec] Losing memories in Paragon

I have a model 585 Paragon with a v.6 Giehl chip that has performed
beautifully and is my all-time favorite rig. It had the trickle-charge
option from the factory and uses a NiCd battery for maintaining memories,
and I've never had a problem losing memory even with all power removed for
days at a time...until just recently. Now it may lose memories after only 12
hours of "off" time. Although the battery is less than a year old, I plan to
replace it, but as I recently added the voice-board I was wondering if that
adds any load to the 9v battery? Are there better 9v battery options
available? Thanks for any insights.
