[TenTec] Centaur

Here's the fan that I used in my Centaur, Josh:
http://www.mouser.com/catalog/620/1223.pdf
Look for item #59121-4800X, a bit more than half way down the page.
119x38mm, 57 CFM.
While I am confident that the amp runs cooler now than it did, I do not =
have
specific evidence of that - other than placing my hand over the tubes =
while
I'm operating. In the future I'm going to try a 25 CFM fan but will =
take
before and after temperatures of the exhaust air to see if the reduced =
air
flow is an issue or not. =20
Centaur reviews on eHam (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/155) =
provided me
with several contacts who were happy to discuss their airflow mods. For
what it might be worth, another op reported achieving significant =
reduction
in fan noise by covering replacing the original 100 CFM fan with a 25 =
CFM
fan and then covering the intake of that with a snap on grill and =
filter.
He told me that he grill/filter combination reduced the high pitched =
intake
noise, resulting in the amp making about as much noise as a PC.
Operating here is mostly CW with a weekly SSB ragchew on 160. If I =
stand up
and lean over the top of the amp the blower can be heard (I use Heil =
boom
mike/headset). Otherwise, I'm told that is not noticeable. The amp has
seen use in several CW and SSB contests and has performed perfectly.
Frankly, I'm not sure I could have stood listening to the original fan =
for
48 hours.
Have not tried it with high duty cycle mode like RTTY. =20

I too am using the Taylor 572B's in my Centaur. Works FB. Also have a=20
Titan III,
so don't use the Centaur much due to the fan noise. What mod. (size) =
Papst=20
57 CFM
do you use? Would like to use the Centaur on ssb too. 73 de Josh, =
