[TenTec] Spam filter

I have been made aware that several have responded to my email with no
response from me in return, although I have received some just fine. This
morning I found several unusual mails in my Norton spam box, some with
partial ham calls. If you tried to mail me, try again using your call and
"radio" in the subject line. I will watch for any spam rejections and
contact you. Sry for the trouble. There is a nasty "mydoom" virus among
others on our Realtors and MLS alert notice so I cannot drop the protection.
Thanks, Tommy WD4K

Well, of all the stupid things I've pulled off in my life, this
one's near the top of the list!

Obviously my previous post was intended to be directed privately
to Yuri.

Maybe it was a Freudian Slip. After all, I had only two
intentions with that post:

1. I would like to stop the bickering here and return the group
to maximum productivity.

2. I honestly think that Yuri and Scott together as a team in the
next WRTC could beat anything the rest of the world has to throw
at them! There was a time that this was an option. I'd like to
see it happen.

If at the end of the day, they actually do end up together (and
win) then the result will be that I'm still a silly fool who
hasn't yet learned how to use these group forums!

I'll quit now while I'm behind.

I am sorry to be the cause of all this, but my involvement was to help,
offer
this contester's opinion, to contribute to improvements and to make Orion
truly contester's favorite radio. I had some previous bad experiences for

Sure it works, very nicely. But a far more economical one is to get the kit
from Ten Tec T kits and build it in one evening and use that.

I don't think that's "all that's needed". Here's what's actually needed.

Upon PTT closure the transmitter must get ready to send CW code
before the first keying pulse arrives in order to avoid chopping it,
like it does now. Minimum "PTT setup time to key down" shall be specified.

Upon PTT termination the transceiver must switch to receive as fast
as possible and as clean as possible, disregarding the "CW QSK Delay"
setting. Also the AMP KEY line must get deactivated as fast as possible,
disregarding the "External T/R" setting. Minimum "PTT hold time from key up"
shall be specified.

It works, but you will be better off with an MFJ or Autek impedance/swr
meter. You have to be just as careful not to transmit into either one, and
the meter is more useful. I assume you want to tune a tuner w/o power.

We've had this one 33 days.
At 72 yr. plus, I find that I don't have the talent to fly this machine
and make it do barrel rolls, spins, and figure eights it is capable of.
It doesn't like my vibroplex bug and I'm too old to learn how to use those
dang automatic things.
No tuner,
includes unopened goodie bag ,
unopened remote key pad,
and Heil mic adapter that is wired correctly. (some aren't)
Manual has six 'high lite' marks .
We'd sell it for 500 below our cost.

Drasco is about 90 miles north of Little Rock.
We'd meet you half way or you could come see it on the desk.

Hi Scott:

Thanks for the information, but I'm afraid I didn't understand your
posting. I think this is largely semantics, but let me ask a couple
of questions so we are speaking the same language.

1. How can you defeat QSK in the Orion and operate PTT CW? What
does PTT CW mean in this context?

2. I understand, and have used, semi-break-in CW. Many Japanese
rigs call it "VOX." There's a VOX DELAY which they set (very
similar to the TenTec QSK DELAY) to control it. The same setting
often applies to both SSB and CW operation.

I see the difference between PTT and semi-break-in in CW and
PTT verses VOX in SSB as the exact same issue. I don't see
an equivalent to QSK for SSB.

I clearly don't understand what you mean by PTT for CW.
Is it something different than PTT for SSB?

3. What is "PTT Control" of CW? I don't understand this.

BTW, I used an Orion in the 160 contest. What I did was to
let the Orion operate QSK and fed the computer PTT signal
directly to the amplifier. Other than rather loud sidetone
key clicks on CW, which I normally didn't hear because I was
listening to the other radio, it worked fine. I'm not sure
I managed to use the AGC to best advantage, but I'll learn!

The only real issue I see is having to reconfigure between
SSB, where PTT goes to the Orion from the computer/DVP/DVK,
and CW, where PTT goes to the amplifier from the computer.

Thanks and 73.
