[TenTec] Orion microphone choices, Orion Monitor function

Don,
I am running an Heil HC-5 element in a Radio Shack Cardioid metal microphone
body. The Orion's settings used with this mic combination are: Processing
at 3, Mic at 71, TX EQ at 0.
I generally work DX and a little rag chewing. In that vein, I consistently
receive outstanding, excellent, etc transmitted audio reports. (Yeh I know,
beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
Please note that I have grounded the microphone's cable shield (this came
with the original Radio Shack Mic) to both the Orion's 'radio' and 'chassis'
ground, i.e., I tied the audio ground to the chassis ground. I learn to do
this from my Icom 775DSP rig, which grounds are in the same configuration as
the Orion, to prevent RF energy getting into the audio.

Subject: [TenTec] Orion microphone choices, Orion Monitor function
Hello All,
New to the list, so if this has been discussed before, my apologies.
Curious as to what everyone is running for a microphone with their Orion.
I use the Ten-Tec Studio mic with mine, and have gotten excellent audio
reports.
However, when I compare my Orion to my 1000D, people who know my voice tell
me that I sound "louder" and have better DX characteristics on the 1000D. I
use a
MD-1 Yaesu desk mic with a Heil number "5" cartridge with my 1000D.
No amount of adjustment gets my Orion to sound as punchy as my 1000D.
What is everyone using with their Orions for microphones, and why? Has
anyone done any comparisons with different microphones? Results?
On a bit of a different subject...what do you Orion owners think of the
monitor circuit? I find mine to be muffled and not true sounding...sound
familiar, or is my monitor just not working right?
Thanks!

BTW, running version 1.367 software.
