[TenTec] Why is the Jupiter better?

Sorry John, we can't leave that one go....
Try running high-speed break-in CW with the IC-746 and compare it to the
Jupiter.
You'll throw rocks at the 746!
Try to attach a linear to the 746 and then run high-speed break-in cw.
The Jupiter has QSK keying lines for the amp.
You'll throw rocks at the 746!
And if you're an SSB op, then you'll enjoy the ability to be able to open up
the bandwidth of the Jupiter's filters, improving speech fidelity.
Finally, the 746 PRO has already been superceded by the PRO II.
I suppose its resale value will drop substantially the day you unpack it.
The Jupiter will eventually be replaced, but we'll see a lot of firmware
updates before that happens. The Jupiter will keep getting better as it
ages. The Icom just gets older.
I really enjoy running the N4PY software on my Ten-Tec.
However it's great to also use the remote POD (tuning know) with this
software.
I don't know if there's any similar radio control software for the 756 PRO
but there is no remote tuning knob. Actually, I don't think the 746 PRO can
be remotely controlled but I'm not certain.
Now these may or may not be important to people buying a new rig.
That's up to the guy spending the money.
I just wanted to point out that there are more reasons than "service" to buy
the Jupiter.
(However, should you ever need it, you will appreciate just how important
this service feature is!)
My 2 (EURO) cents worth.

The only thing Ten Tec buys you when comparing the 2 radios is service.

I can get an Icom IC-746 Pro for $1300 including power supply and
microphone. It looks like it has the same features as the Jupiter plus I
get 6M and 2M. A Jupiter will cost me almost $1700 if I get the external
fan and some sort of tuner (internal or external) and power supply. The
microphone is free for awhile.
I want to support Ten-Tec as it is an American company and I grew up with
Knight-Kits and Heathkits, but is the Jupiter that superior to other rigs in
its class?

Bob
