Christoph, Is is possible that you have the VOX turned on and the settings
in the menu are set in a way that would delay return of the receive when you
release the PTT button on your mike? It sounds like something is not
sequencing properly. It might be time to call repair at TT Toby W4CAK

Subject: [TenTec] Orion T/R switching and S-Meter issue..

Hello,

I have my Orion running fine for abt 2 weeks and here is something I
don't know how to solve it:

Quite often, when transmitting and then releasing the PTT on the Mic,
the S-Meter goes
to full scale and stays there for some time, depending on how my AGC
Decay is set. So when
I am talking to somebody whose signal isn't strong, I miss the first few
seconds of his
transmission because my S-Meter/AGC is still at S9++.

When I slowly reduce PWR down from 100W the issue gets better, at abt
75W or so it
is no longer a problem.

When pressing the PTT on the Mic without speaking (no output) the
problem is not there.

Strange:
When enabling the RX ATT (just 6dB is enough) the issue is completely
gone.

Sometimes, when switching the Orion off and back on, the issue is also
completely gone and does not reappear. Sometimes this does not help.

I have placed ferrit chokes on all my cables (Mic, Amp, Key, Phones,
Power) and this
has helped to solve some other problems. This problem is there even with
all
cables (except Power and Mic) disconnected.

Of course having the RX ATT enabled is not something I want to do and
also depending
on Condx, Noise Level etc.. I may want my AGC to be slow.

Any idea would be great!

Chris, DL4YAO
