Here's another idea, but it's built for somewhat smaller space.  I found
a small oak dining table, 30" x 48", then built an oak finished plywood
shelf (hidden center support).  The depth could be a little greater,
since the work space left in front is 12".  But because the entire shelf
is open underneath in the front, the working space is much greater.  The
photo shows an Omni VI+ on the shelf, but the new Orion fits just fine on
there now.
