This hits the nail on the head for me.  When I raise a technical "issue" 
that I have, it defines my problem for technical discussion.  When 
someone replies with "I don't have that problem with mine" - it is not 
helpful to me in a scientific / logical search through the problem 
space.  It is simple anecdote and means nearly nothing in the overall 
scheme of things, unless someone is taking a scientific poll and we're 
counting the responses via the list.  (not suggested :-)

This is fair enough.  However, if most of the time when I raise some 
issue, I get at least a few "but mine doesn't have the problem" or "did 
you read the manual?" or "ICOM has even worse problems!" - I get the 
sense that the issue I raised is NOT the issue for the responder, but 
their intent is to "defend" Ten Tec.  I suppose I have so much respect 
for Ten Tec that their defense is a non issue for me.   I would like to 
correct misinformation when I run into it - for any manufacturer - by 
addressing the misinformation with relevant data and fact, not anecdote.

Of course this is true, it just seems "defensive" and is not in the 
spirit of addressing the genuine issue that may have been raised.  I 
personally ignore these comments, however well intentioned, because they 
add nothing to the discussion of the actual underlying issue.  They 
decrease the signal/noise ratio.

And I think there is some relevance to this statement.  Thicker skins 
may be helpful :-) and an occasional reminder that whatever my 
interpretation of a response, the responder's intention may be entirely 
pure.  Thanks for that.
