I just this thought. I wonder if possibly leaving the serial cable hooked up between the Orion and a PC could present problems? After all, when the PC is booted it does pulse one or more of the serial connector's leads. Maybe by some chance that glitch screws up something in the rig's firmware. Something to try anyway.
