I think the older analog phasing method was not entirely without problems.  
I currently use dsp for phase cancellation ssb generation.  You are 
right--the improvement over filtering is quite good, and digital technology 
makes it practical.

Bob,

Phantom power supplied by the transceiver?  Interesting, but as I'm sure you 
know, running a condensor mic right into the rig would not be a good idea.
