[TenTec] Peg/Jupiter contesting software

That helped a little. I think that most of use aren't programmers and 
have no idea what a TenTec file interface is or a Jupiter command set 
means. 
I've interfaced several rigs to computers using a few contesting 
softwares but these Jupiters are different. Looking at:

 under logging software, there must be at least 50 
different types. Most of them say they will work with the Omni VI. 
However the Omni VI certainly isn't like a Jupiter or Pegasus. After 
all, the Pegasus won't do anything without a computer! So even though 
the software claims to work with TenTec equipment, I think we can rule 
it out unless it specifically says Pegasus. Now if in fact it claims to 
work with a Pegasus then are there 2 different kinds?

1. Software that not only logs but also controls the front panel so you 
don't need "control software"
2. Software that only logs and requires a separate front panel program.

Then there is logging vs. contesting software. Usually contesting 
software is more expensive for obvious reasons and there are much fewer 
on the market. I can't tell a thing about them by reading their 
documents when it comes to working with a Peg/Jup. Yes, I understand 
that WriteLog works with N4PY software but will it work without N4pY 
software? Or without any control program for that matter? Can it control 
the rig or do you need to flip back and forth between the two during a 
contest to keep things going? That seems a bit unhandy! 

I realize there is a big difference between the Jupiter and the Pegasus. 
The Jupiter doesn't NEED a computer but does that mean that the Jupiter 
DOES NEED a computer to work with ANY contesting software? DOes the fact 
that WriteLog is compatible with N4PY software mean that it will not 
work on a Jupiter without N4PY software? 

Carl: I am sure glad you are here to explain all of this because 
obviously, no one else has a clue what's going on. Isn't it great how 
ham radio is no longer just RADIO? We used to spend all of our energy 
just keeping the rig going, tubes changed etc. Now we spend hours just
