I have been using a heavy duty foot switch from a tire making machine that I 
got when I worked at Armstrong Tire and Rubber many years ago.   These work 
great and have multiple heavy current handling contacts.   However, I doubt that 
one could easiiy find one of these.

But, you might try old sewing machine foot switches or new ones if available..
