Jim, the single experiences actually in one case show that a "better"
pattern is had by using a dipole element in parallel with the 80/40 dipole,
not that the 80/40 was not "working" on 30m (with tuner).  The patterns
change between a resonant element and one that is long or short for a band.

The other example, is why a lot of folks have inverted L antennas.  At some
time of day or night, propagation may favor the combination of vertical and
horizontal polarization from the same antenna, and that angled dipole
certainly was capable of that.

But for any antenna testing you need to evaluate them over days and nights
for months.
