See what I mean Rob? You can't make a single negative statement about TenTec
without getting bombarded by the same old defensive comments like
"Yacomwoods have even worse problems." You can work on TenTecs but not on
yacomwoods." " TenTec is more friendly" etc etc. Nothing helpful, just the
same ole stuff and then finally you are asked to just go out and buy a
Kenwood and get off the reflector.
I never see this kind of action on the Icom reflector. Wonder why? BTW: I
had a lightning hit on my Pro2 which was 1 week past the warranty period. I
called ICOM and spoke to the service manager. He was American, spoke perfect
english (better than I do) and offered to honor the warranty anyway. After
shipping the rig, I waited to allow time for it to arrive, gave him a call
and he moved me to the top of the list. Total turnaround time was 2 days
plus UPS shipping time. Maybe they have learned a few lessons somewhere?
As for working on TenTec gear. It did in fact used to be very easy back when
they used through hole parts but now their stuff is all SMT so we lost that
advantage. Now, very few of use will be able to so much as change a
resistor!
