Most auto tuning schemes seem to use a SWR null detector. You don't need the precise SWR across a known impedance but a null in SWR between the rig and autotuner, with the auto tuner input a 50 ohm point. So no matter what the output Z is at the tuner, it is trying to null the SWR back to the radio. -Stuart K5KVH
