Interesting story.  I remember some A2A code practice on 2 meters
years ago.  I think the reasons for A2A were rigs designed only for
voice (no key input on Tx, no BFO on Rx) and rigs that weren't stable
enough, esp at VHF/UHF, to support A1A.
