One of the boards, the one with the display, lifts out, but you have to
remove the front panel and pull it forward to gain enough clearance to
remove the boards. To get the front panel off, remove all knobs, remove
the screws on the sides of the panel, that secure it to the chassis.
There are two screws on each side. Remove the nuts and washers on the
two potentiometer shafts and the panel should pull forward. On my Scout
there is no nut on the phone jack shaft. The panel will pull off, but it
will still be constrained by a multitude of wires.
The lamp unplugs from the meter. It is held in place by a rubber
grommet. I cut one lamp wire and inserted a 56 ohm resistor in series
with it to reduce the brightness for nighttime use and prolong the lamp
life. You could also replace it with an LED, I'm sure.
When reassembling, I tighten the side screws on the panel first, then
the 2 pot shafts.
