No, as I understand it, its a California thing. Look at any product that
uses solder and you will see a notice that the state of California has
determined that the product contains known carcinogens. They even have
warning notices posted on the doors in California hotels because of the
toxic chemicals in the cleaning products that they use.
It may be all part of the RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances)
bogey-man which will require lead-free solder in the future.
I hope they don't take away all of our tin-lead soldered radios. I spent
most of my youth in the basement building Heathkits and the solder fumes
hardly damaged my brain at all, though some would debate this...
