[TenTec] RE: Production of Classic Argonaut 515

Chas,

The information you have provided is much much appreciated. This morning I
came across an ad on E-Ham.net, from Richard WN9DDV who, about 4 years ago,
had his 515 listed for sale. In his listing, Richard states that "only 845
were made". Although no info source was quoted, this supports what Rich
Arland is saying. Adrian Weiss, another QRP guru, has also been known to use
the "800 plus" figure. So, as you suggest, my 515 (Serial #822) may have
been among the last to be produced by TT. BTW, the reason why I raised the
question on the reflector is that I am considering selling my 515 (I now
have a new 516). I just wanted to get an idea of just how "rare" the 515s
are.

Vy 73s and thanks again for the information provided!

I wonder if the current model 302 remote knob could not be used.
Is anyone familiar enough with that unit to know if i could be made to work?

The lables on my schematic for the 9420 show where the 3 non-ground
wires of the transceiver connector go, to HI I, LO I and PWR ON. Putting
a "load" (perhaps a short to ground) on the PWR ON lead would turn on
Q1, and then everything that happens when the amplifier power switch
connects the other PWR ON to the +REG would happen just the same. What
is unclear to me is how the Omni VI wiring does this.

Yup, the "plain" Omni A is the one with the squelch control. Some day,
I'll make better use of that pot on my Omni A - probably a variable
notch filter.

Doug,

According to Rich Arland in his book Low Power Communication, only 800+
were ever made. I don't know what the "+" means. Manufacturers never start
their serial numbers with 1; 100 is more likely. So you must have one of
the last. He goes on to say "so prices on these rigs are extremely
high." I didn't find that to be true; I sold one from an estate. I would
call them "overpriced." An analog Triton-IV will go down in power from 100
to essentially zero watts, has a better receiver, makes a fine QRP rig, and
costs much less.

73,

Chas

Use the 18A with the Corsair as that is what was original
supplied as an instant trip. The fast trip is what is available
today. Remember these DO NOT trip at the rated current but take
at least 135% to trip. That means a 18A takes at least 24.3 amps
to trip and will trip within .3 to 7 seconds. At 150% it will
trip within .1 seconds. See the AirPax chart below for these
breakers. Hope it comes through in proper order. The best place
to buy is POCO Sales in Ca.
Trip time in seconds. Note I deleted everything over 200%

Delay 100% 135% 150% 200%
Instant No Trip May Trip .100 Max .100 Max.
Fast No Trip .3-7 .2-5 .1-2
Slow No Trip 3-70 2-40 1-15

Hello,
I have not even had it one year, but due to lack of use, I am selling
my mint Jupiter. It has the tuner. It comes in the original
packaging with paperwork and manual. Asking $1100 or open to total or
partial interesiting trades. It is a good rig, but just not my style
of operating.

I used to collect info on the birdy reducing mods and still have some info
up on my Web site at http://n1eu.tripod.com/Mods/birdiesmod.htm - I've
never tried any of them myself, so don't ask me, etc.

Like Steve said, I know that the mothership incorporated some of these mods
and probably came up with some of their own, but I've never seen it
documented anywhere.
