My Omni VI (not plus or version 3) has the Ten-Tec 217 500 Hz BW filter 
in the 9 MHz IF NAR optional filter position. I do not notice any 
attenuation on signals inside this bandwidth when I switch the narrow 
filter in. There may be some net measurable loss, which I have never 
measured. There is certainly not 12 dB (two S units) or even 3 dB (one 
half S unit) as I am sure I could discern that amount of loss with just 
the S meter reading on a steady carrier. That makes me wonder if there 
was something wrong with the filters you tried, or the circuitry or 
jumpering on your  9MHz Mixer/IF Board.

Anyway if the Inrad mod is giving you what you want, that is great. I 
will be looking in to that modification myself, as I do understand the 
advantage of having the narrow bandwidth filter earlier in the signal chain.
