[TenTec] Delta Question

They are completely different radios. About the only things
that they share in common is the Ten Tec brand name and the
Delta model name.

The 580 Delta was targeted as a mid price range radio at
~$900, essentially a price point replacement for the then
just discontinued 540/544 (but with WARC bands). The Original
Omni 545/546 series had inched up to the ~$1200 price point
even though they shared more in common with the 540/544
circuit design wise, especially in the respect of VFO and IF
frequencies and overall mixing scheme.

The 580 Delta is a somewhat unique Ten Tec radio that it used
a final IF frequency in the 6.3 MHz range. The band switch
switched the fixed 1st LO band crystals to mix with the
incoming receive signal to then feed the second mixer with a
11-11.5 MHz range of signals that were then mixed with the
~5-5.5 MHz region VFO to arrive at the 6.3 MHz second IF.
About that same time Ten Tec sort of homogenized the Omni
545/546 series and the 580 Delta circuit design to arrive
with the Corsair series. The Corsair had IF filtering at both
9MHz and 6.3 MHz, something that Ten Tec continued to do up
through the Omni VI/VI+

The Delta II is even more unique; it really doesn't share
anything at all in common with any of the prior Ten Tec
models. And I don't think that it shares very much in common
with any other models since then either. It featured a
variable bandwidth IF "Jones filter"; a design approach that
I believe was later used in the Scout. I'm not familiar with
the Delta II's IF scheme but I believe it was an up
conversion design in order to provide full HF band RX
capability. From what I can tell its performance/capability
was targeted toward the Kenwood TS-430/440, Yaesu FT757, Icom
IC-735 market space. As I recall the Delta II was in the
~$1400 price range when new.
