I am also running an Omni VI plus..and using MixW
I have had my best results running the sliders for play control and wave/mp3 
wide open...and adjusting the mic gain on the rig to just below alc light 
level.
The brand and quality of the soundcard makes a difference also..I am running 
a Sounblaster Audigy.
