Ken, good questions on interaction, but parallel elements are different
coupling than a feedline at right angles to an element.

Consider that in theory, the feedline goes to low impedance point of
antenna, which is the high current point.   At one quarter wave along the
feedline away from the antenna, you are at a high impedance point, re the
conductor of the shield outer side.  That would be low current induction
there.

granted more linear distance would be better in a perfect world, but after
quarter wave you could turn the feeder down at an angle that still would not
be perfectly coupled to the element.

Very few feed situations on antennas meet all the perfection requirements.
You set it up and try it and most times it works well enough.
