[TenTec] Orion Filters

Scott,

Many have found the 500 Hz filter to degrade some performance ( abt 6db )
due to some issues with an amplifier placed inline with the filter when it
was selected, It should be noted that the 'optional' filters and the stock
filters have a 'slightly' different center frequency, so they can not be
moved around in the slots.

It was found that putting a 762 filter (a 600Hz filter centered for the
stock filters) in the 1Khz filter position essentially restored that 6db of
performance, It's not that noticable in casual situations, however, in
heavily crowded CW contesting situations, its the difference of getting
that noise floor signal next to a big gun and not hearing it at all. I got
mine in when it wasn't listed, you had to request it and build the filter as
a kit. It really does help... Now you can buy them from Inrad plug and
play.

The Orion II solves this problem and I'm looking forward to seeing first
hand the results of their efforts.

Best wishes,
Rich
