I used to hear reports of the capacitor separating in the center.  That 
capacitor was maybe a "doorknob", a round thing with screw holes in each 
end.  One would wind up with two pieces, each with one screw hole in it.

I think the Butternut caps problem was internal construction and you could
not tell from outside, except to electrically test the tuned circuit for
trap action.

You should be able to verify the tuning with antenna analyzer or GDO.
