[TenTec] Centurion 40 m. oscillation

Maybe by now my mission will have been accomplished. If a fellow has that
sort of trouble he'll first check to see that his connectors are tight.

Hi Mike,

My feeling is that this was a different type of problem. I guess we'll
never know for sure. The kind of symptom you describe (RF feedback) is
something i have experienced, but I have never seen it completely confined
to one band--my experience has been more like it is most severe on 80 m.,
and present but attenuated on 160 m. and 40 m., but not absent. i think
that if a loose connector were to alter the reactance on the line, it would
have a similar effect with reactance on more than one band such as 40, 20
and 15. RF can do strange things though and if we could persuade Hank to
loosen one of the connectors on his 8' jumper we might learn something, but
i have a feeling he would not be interested in trying that!

<<<You may have experienced RF in your shack over the years. A microphone
can
burn your face or a key your fingers. This trouble usually depends on the
band in use -- I might have high levels of RF in my shack on 80 meters and
almost none on 40 meters.

The instant problem might be caused by high levels of RF entering the jumper
which goes from the rig to the amplifier. That RF might be, and probably
would be different in levels from band to band because of there being
different antennas and feedlines (or different reactances on a common
antenna and feedline) depending on the frequency band in use.
