[TenTec] Using a TT Omni VI+ with non-TT amplifiers ( Bill - W5HTG )

Hi Bill,
Don't think I know much about the SB-1000 but I have two SB-200 and one
SB-220. Back in those days (I have been a ham since the late 40's) nobody
cared much for QSK at todays speeds. I use them occasionally with my Omni
VI+. However my operating station is the VI+ and a black Centurion. Which
means I have a tan Centurion which is waiting for a buyer. A Collins 30S-1
sits off on corner and needs to be fixed, but gotten too lazy and prefer to
use the above combination, with its instant ON feature and rock solid
performance. Also looking for buyers for the Heath amps. At 82 I need to
downsize my equipment, as we are planning to move to a smaller place. How
much can you afford to pay for an excellent Centurion ? TT has been making
the same amp for 15 years, so it must be pretty reliable !

I have an Omni VI+ and would like to use it with a Heath SB-1000 that has a
PIN diode QSK module built-in. I initially set up the combination using a
RCA audio cable for the relay line between them but got a hot switching
indication
on the SB-1000 during initial testing. When I went to the OMNI menu 1 and
changed the "LCO" from off to on everything worked but I'm not sure if you
can use QSK in this mode - I think this defeats QSK. Has anyone used the
VI+ / SB-1000 combination in QSK mode with sucess? Of course, one
solution is to get a Centurion 422 to go with the VI+ but I don't want to
spend
the $2700 at this time - hihi. Any suggestions?
          Bill - W5HTG
