Yes, we know string works for short distances:)  

However, if you speak into the microphone of an
amatuer radio transciever and they guy on the other
end of the QSO understands you, hasn't the objective
been achieved? 

Most keep their filters set at 3000 Hz or 2400 Hz so
anything more than that is just wasting bandwidth.

I really don't understand the fuss.
