And furthermore, it would be different for every difference impedance 
headset. The only way Ten-Tec could make this work to everybody's 
satisfaction would be to have two separate audio power amplifiers, one 
for speaker and one for headphones, with separately adjustable soft pots 
for each. Or a logic input from auxiliary switch contacts on the head 
phone jack could make the control system switch between two audio gain 
settings.

At my station, which does not include an Orion, I run the external 
speaker output to a passive distribution system, which allows multiple 
headphones and a speaker to be plugged in. Each has it's own volume 
control. I prefer this because I like the speaker to continue to work 
when the headphones are plugged in. I take it with me to field day, and 
it make for a much more interesting station for spectators. The 
operator(s) need headphones, and if they were plugged into the headphone 
jack, spectators would hear none of the excitement on the band.
