[TenTec] Paragon Questions

I used a 10D for some time, but found that I had a problem with hum
apparently induced from the transformer in the TT ps directly to the
coils of the dynamic mic! If I moved the power supply about 5 feet from
the mic, or if I didn't use any compression it wasn't a problem.

Since I like the look and feel of the of the 10D and G stand, I
eventually put a Heil HC-5 element in the 10D case (with a bit of
packing foam behind to keep in place) and have been happy ever since. I
also had a 705 and that worked fine, but in some comparitive tests (see
Dec 03 QST review of the Heil ProSet+), we decided that the HC-5 was
better with my voice and the 705 with Nancys's (W1NCY), so the HC-5 went
into the 10D and the 705 is now part of the W1NCY IC-718 station.

I have enjoyed the Paragon a lot in the years since I've had it (it
replaced my TT Corsair in perhaps 1998). The one thing you want to
remember is that unlike the Omnis, it doesn't have a tight roofing
filter (VHF first IF), so if the going gets tough hit the receive
attenuator!

GL and enjoy!
