Geoff, Shalom my friend. Good ideas, Wish it were that way. Yet the premise is wrong, The Orion is not and never was a SDR. This may be a reason TT sees the firmware as a bit less important. The electronics works fine doesn't it? If the Orion were really a SDR then the rest of the suggestions would be correct Best wishes, Rich K5SF
