The mounting will mask high frequencies from the rear, giving it a 
degree of apparent directivity. The term uni-directional isn't really 
valid in a microphone context.
A cardioid results from the superimposition of an omni and a figure of 
eight pattern, and has a nice deep null off the back.
A hyper-cardioid such as a Sennheiser 805 has a tighter main lobe with a 
few minor lobes off the back but the pattern is frequency-sensitive.
Sort of like antennas really!
